Back to Basics

YES! Sonic is fun again! His first DS outing is what everyone had clamored for: fast, fun gameplay reminiscent of his glory years on the Genesis. Speedy and superb, Sonic Rush is a marvelous return to form and a huge victory for Sonic. The plot? Oh, like you really care, but here's the basic setup: Sonic is trying the chase down Dr. Eggman and stop his evil plans. Big whoop. And (surprise) yet another new character joins the lineup: Blaze the Cat, a guardian of some other form of emeralds from another dimension. She's chasing Eggman to try to find out what's going on and where she is. But you really didn't come here for that; you came to find out how the game plays. Patience, young Jedi. Before you learn the ways of the Force, you must learn about the production values. First of all: it's purdy. The 2D backdrops are tasty, and the 3D character models are fluidly animated and look good. And no, it isn't jarring; in fact, you barely notice it when you're flying along so fast that you can't even see the environments. The 3D sections interspersed throughout the game are a nice treat, although not very graphically impressive. The sound is definitely Sonic: crap voice acting. Note to Sega: if it's going to be this bad, don't do it. I mean, I appreciate the effort it must've took for programmers to put amateur voice acting of stilted, heavy-handed dialogue on a DS cartridge, but it's... well, you know. The music, however, is the opposite. It's very catchy and bright; in fact, I often found myself listening to the music through the game's included music player. It's that good. Now that you've scrolled down through the rest of the review, let me tell you about the gameplay: it's fast, fun, and Sonic through and through. Blaze plays the same as Sonic and goes through the same stages, which feels gimmicky, but it extends the game. Because despite the fantastic gameplay, the game is short. But you'll love every second of it. Well, maybe not the voice-acted parts. So, even though it's flawed, Sonic Rush is a great return to form and a must-have for fans of Sonic, platformers, or just DS owners. Give it a chance, won't you?

Classic

Awesome game. Enjoyed it very much, although the music was horrible, the gameplay was simple and very fun. The touch screen on the DS is used alot for this game, and is used very well. Easy game and very addicting.

Sonic rush...

The boss battles are waaaaaaaaaaaaay too easy compared to the stages themselves. Th plot line is...*special.* It doesn't use the touch screen at all, and this game could have easily be made for the GBA. NOT the greatest sonic game ever made.

Opinion

You may think different. If you want amazing cool 3d graphics than get mario kart DS or Super Mario 64 ds. If you love platformers bump up my paltry rating to a 4.
