A true classic and masterpiece from the PS1 era. While still awesome in its own right, it didn't clear the hurdle all the way when making its way to the PSP...

For those who've experienced the original, you're familiar with the typos and somewhat confusing translations it had. For the "enhanced" port, Square-Enix decided to re-write every bit of dialogue, item and ability descriptions, and even change the names of several characters. This isn't an issue for new players, but for veterans such as myself, you'll find yourself using the help feature to check what an ability does more than you should. Was there really a need for such a drastic overhaul on just about everything with binding text? No.....no there wasn't.

The only other problem the game is unfortunately affected with are massive slowdowns. You may hear others say the original had the same slowdowns, but as someone who still owns the original, I can tell you it is not the same. The original scarcely had slowdowns with specific actions (namely huge spells), whereas the PSP port has slowdowns on every action you perform in battle. Even using a potion with make the game slow down to a crawl. Completely unacceptable! Square-Enix dropped the ball on keeping the frame rate at least on the same level as the original. However, once you play the game long enough, you become accustomed to all the slowdowns, and you eventually forget it's even happening, until you quit and play it again at a later time, of course.

Though I have not dabbled in the multi-player component of the game, I haven't heard many (if any) complaints about it.

Overall, if you liked the original and/or strategy RPGs in general, FFT:TWotL is a must-buy. Despite the massive re-work on the majority of the text and slowdowns, you'll have a great time with it.
