Warhawk: Omega Dawn

The first booster pack for the PS3 exclusive MMO Warhawk is approaching release and from the looks of it, Omega only begins to describe just how much content this booster ads.

When Warhawk first released this fall one of the key selling points of the online only game was the promise of additional downloadable content. It looks as though the developers are following though with this promise. We've yet to get our hands on the finished product, but from the looks of things it's well worth the wait.

The cover of night

When I spoke with Dylan Jobe, the Creative Director of Warhawk, (if you missed the interview you can find it here) he emphasized that the community playing the game would determine what content would be created the for downloadable booster content. After reading his blog post it seems that he was absolutely sincere with this comment. It looks as though all of the content was produced in response to requests from the community.

The Omega Dawn booster pack adds three main elements to the game. A new map comes with the booster called the "Omega Factory." This is a nighttime battlefield and from the look of the map it is enormous. The thought of tearing though the night sky in my Warhawk to devastate my opponent has my trigger finger itching.

The second element that comes with the bonus pack is a 7 man drop ship called the KT-424. Players will be able to fly their teammates into areas and drop them off for tactical ground based assaults. I can't wait to see how this plays out in capture the flag. These drop ships are available in the "Omega Factory," and a few other levels, which brings us to the third major addition.

Five updated layouts for maps from the original game will be available for use with the drop ship. This means the KT-424 should fit nicely into the overall game making it a force to be reckoned with.

There's no official release date set at the moment, but we'll keep our fingers crossed for a December release. For those of us still getting hours of fun out of Warhawk this is definitely something to keep an out on. The booster will be available at the Playstation store for $7.99, in the mean time check out the screens posted below.
