Nintendo denies letting down long-time fans

Company says more traditional first-party games are inbound, but it will take at least another year.
Nintendo says it still likes this guy
"We have never neglected our core gamers," an unnamed representative was quoted as saying in the October issue of Edge. "We still have developers working on popular core gaming franchises, but we need approximately two to three years to complete these games." The official added that said games will not be ready for release in early 2009, but sometime later in the year.
In July, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata offered a similar explanation, when apologizing for an underwhelming showing at E3, which lacked compelling first-party games intended for long-time Nintendo fans.
"If there is any perception that Nintendo is ignoring the core gamers, it's a misunderstanding," he told Forbes. "The fact of the matter is the so-called 'big titles' need a long, long development period."
Nintendo has been on the defensive in recent months, as it tries to balance the level of attention given to long-time fans, while reaching out to a highly lucrative group of non-traditional gamers, including estranged, female, and elderly players.

Nintendo does need to get their act together. They offer so much. They've thought outside of the box so far, so why not now at least with platformers?

Bull. They hit the jackpot and they just don't care about core gamers anymore. I understand that it is a business and the goal is to make money, but it's also an art and needs to be more than just quick throwtogethers.

They can deny it all they want, but they have moved away from catering to their traditional fanbase.
While it's obviously been good business sense for them, it still sucks for the hardcore gamers who kept them going during the N64 and especially Gamecube days.

Of course Nintendo denies it. With the SNES, N64, GC, Gameboy or any other Nintendo console, it was never about money. That was because they were not making as much, however they would come up with great games. It seems like with the Wii, they found out no matter what game they make up, people will buy it, so it is all about the money. I mean seriously, I bet some of the games that they made took about 5 minutes to come up with the concept idea for that game. So: Old Nintendo - Good, New Nintendo - Bad

What Nintendo lacked with the GC and N64, they got this time around, 3rd party support. Too bad the games are worth shit. Game Devs had had some of these games on the back shelf and decide to release them rather than let them sit and not make money. Gamers started see games like : Piggyback Rides, 3D Hop Scotch and Barrel Races next to Nintendo's franchise games. Hit or miss is better than a definite no sell in any business.

I've been speaking about how Nintendo has disappointed me this generation and I'm glad to know i'm not the only Nintendo fan feeling the same way. Not at all what I expected from the "Father's Of Modern-Day Gaming". The people who are responsible for the best of the 1st platformers. I hope they do get their act together, because I won't buy a Wii until they do-because Virtual Console will not be its saving grace.
